Fred Smoral, was born in Danville, Va.  He started playing Bluegrass in the mid 70's after attending his first bluegrass festival hosted by Carlton Haney in Camp Springs, NC.  Also one of the original members of the Train Robbers Band in Danville, VA in the late 70's.  By day, Fred is a computer technical consultant.  Fred plays a 2006 Beard L Body Resophonic Guitar and has been a member of the Orchard Boy's since 1984.  Fred resides in Urbana, MD with his wife Brigitte.
Paul Houck Jr., the newest Orchard Boy, brought his hard driving banjo to the group in February of 2000. He began playing in 1984 at age 13, and also plays several other instruments. While firmly rooted in the traditional three finger Scruggs style of Bluegrass banjo playing, his background in other musical genres such as Pop, Jazz, and Classical allow him to continually broaden his musical ideas. He lives in Jefferson, MD with his wife Heather and daughter Camden.
Jim Rosenwald, guitarist (mechanical engineer by day) and the second eldest brother, hails from Braddock Heights, MD, where he lives with wife Annie, and daughter Laura. Influenced primarily by traditional bluegrass with a modern flavor, his musical philosophy is based in emphasis, together with bassist Jeff, on a solid rhythm backing that defines the Orchard Boys' sound and hard driving style. His musical interests are varied, ranging from classical to jazz, and folk.
John Rosenwald, got bitten by the bluegrass bug in his teens after attending pickin parties in Frederick, MD. His first band was in the Midwest, Spring River, where he played mandolin. After graduating, he moved back to the Frederick area and played bass and sang tenor with bands such as Cherry Lane Express, South Mountain, and The Bluegrass Image. John played mandolin, fiddle and anything with strings.
Jeff Rosenwald, didn't really play a stringed instrument until The Orchard Boys were formed, but he was gifted with a fine, high tenor voice and loved to sing. He has since grown to be the rhythm foundation of the Orchard Boys and never misses a chance to jam when he can. Jeffrey is also a naturally gifted electrical engineer and technician and keeps the Orchard Boys sound system running in top shape. He lives in Urbana, MD with his wife, Tammy, and dog, Tramp.
